Barbados, 12th January 1807.
The Commissary General as Sole Agent appointed for the purchase of
Provisions for His Majesty's Troops, having from the day of his arrival in this
Island, and with considerable success, opposed the combinations of Monopolists,
who during several Years past have accumulated fortunes at the public Expence,
by this Notice invites all Merchants and importers of Provisions and of Lumber,
in this and the several Colonies of Surinam, Demerary, Berbice, Trinidad,
Grenada, Tobago, St. Vincent's St. Lucia, Dominica, Antigua, and St. Kitts, to
inform him with the price, quality and quantity of the several Articles they
may at any time wish to dispose of; their offers will then be laid before the
Commander of the Forces and answered fairly and impartially.
Government being disposed to grant every encouragement to
importations of Provisions and Lumber from the British Colonies of Canada and
Nova Scotia, the Subscriber will be ready to treat with the Proprietors or
Agents of Cargoes arriving from thence.

Whereas, the Second Volume of John Bell's Surgery in quarto has
been found missing from Dr. Allanby's Library. The Subscribers request that
any Gentleman who may have borrowed it, will have the goodness to return it to

Notice is hereby given to such Persons as are willing to supply
the Royal Engineer Department of Barbados, with the following descriptions and
Dimensions of Hardwood, to be cut into the exact proportions as
Specified, and landed by the Contractors on the Bank at Fort
William Frederick, for which purpose sealed Tenders will be received at this
Office for supplying the whole or any part thereof till the 24th of February
next, at 12 o'Clock, when the same will be opened by the Respective Officers
and transmitted to Brigadier General Shipley for his approbation; - And as it
is material that no delay should occur either by neglect or disinclination to
carry their Respective Tenders into execution sufficient security will be
required from the Contractors for the performance of their Contracts within a
specified time.

Demerary, 20th January 1807.
Drifted or Stolen from the Trench at Fort William Frederick about
a fortnight ago, a Four Oar'd Tent Boat belonging to the Ordnance Department,
her bottom painted white with green stripes on the gunnel and several of her
seems black from being lately caulk'd and pitched, her inside brown and the
Tent a light green the whole very much faded and worn off having no Rudder at
the time, and only two Thwarts. Whoever has found the said Boat and will
restore her to me, or if stolen will give information where she is carried to
and the parties concerned so that she cane be recovered and the Delinquents
punished, shall be liberally rewarded by

The Subscriber informs all those whom it may concern, that he has
invested Mr. Amos Leeds and Mr. Park Benjamin with full power to transact and
settle his business. In future will intirely [sic] submit to their directions,
and no business will be transacted by him, without their knowledge and
approbation.
His Domicilium Citandi et Executandi is at the house of Mr. Amos
Leeds.

lately imported in the Ship Clio from Glasgow, and agreeable to Letters from
that place, superior to Mr. Collins' Mills in London. To be seen and for

A Half Lot of Land in Cumingsburgh, with a convenient
Dwelling-House, Kitchen, &c. thereon; terms made very easy to an approved
purchaser. Apply to the Printer.
Stabroek, 24th January, 1807.
Deserted on Sunday night last, from the Ship Intrepid, Captain
Turnbull, seven of the Crew, Names is as follows: - John Selby, Francis Kruger,
Seith Barney, John Gloven, Isaac Sulling, Thomas Cain and Daniel Large, taking
away with them the Ships long boat, about 20 feet long, having yellow sides,
and painted all black on the inside, with her Larboard Gunnel broken near the
Bows. Whoever will bring the said boat to the Intrepid or to the Stelling of
Messrs. Telford, Naghten & Co. will be handsomely rewarded. On lodging any
of the above mentioned in any of his Majesty's Goals [sic], they shall receive
a Reward of One Joe per man. Any Masters of ships harbouring the above
mentioned men on board their ships, will be prosecuted according to the Laws of
this Country and if taken to any part of England will be liable to the penalty
there.

Thomas Frier requests a Meeting of the Creditors of Frier &
Ballard on Monday the 16th of February next, at One o'Clock, at the Union
Coffee House, to lay before them a Statement of the Books, so that the most
speedy method may be taken to bring that Firm to a close.

Runaway from the Subscriber about three Months ago, a Negro Boy
Named George, of the Madingo [sic] Nation and Speaks Dutch and English; he has
been seen lately on the West Coast Demerary. A reward of One Joe will be given
to any Person apprehending him, and bringing him to the Subscriber, or lodging
him in the Colony Barracks of Demerary.

PUBLIC VENDUES. [heading]
On Thursday the 29th instant, at the store of Mr. J. Binning,
front of Plantation Vlissingen, a variety of Dry goods, consisting of broad
cloaths, hosiery, hats &c. white herrings, bottled porter, &c.
On Monday the 2d of Feb. at the house of Messrs. Bauch and Co. on
the front of Werk and Rust: - Dry goods, Provisions, and whatever else may be
brought forward on the day of sale.
On Friday the 6th of Feb. at the Vendue
Office, by order of C. Macrae Esq. a Steam Engine (lately invented) for drying
Coffee by means of Copper Plates heated by Steam.
At the request of a Gentleman of this Colony, lately from
Barbados, we insert the following Notice: -
To all Men whom is present Advertisement may
Concern; be it known: - That a Pound Barbados Currency in 20 shillings, that
One Dollar is 6 shillings and 3 pence, and One Dollar is Ten Bits.

Three Dollars and 2 bits is One L Barbados Currency or 20
shillings, equal with 32 bits so that the Dollar in Demerary, calculated at the
present standard of f 3, makes in Demerary the L Barbados Currency the sum of
Nine Guilders Ten stivers H. C.

Imported in the Ship Jane, Captain Thompson, from Boston, and for
Sale by the Subscribers, the following articles for immediate payment, viz: -

Fish in hogsheads and tierces,
Flour, mess beef in whole and half barrels,
Soap and candles,
They have also left on hand, a few pipes and hogsheads of
particular Madeira Wine, bottled Porter, and some Dry Goods.

Runaway, a young Negro Man by name Glasgow; he speaks English and
Dutch, and may be easily known by one of his smaller toes being off. One Joe
Reward will be given for delivering him to the Subscriber at his House in
Cumingsburgh.

By the Betsey Lugger, which arrived here on Wednesday morning, we
have been favoured with a Barbados paper of the 13th Instant, the mail had not
arrived in Barbados at that date, but London Papers had been received thro'
other Channels up to the 29th November, which give a dreadful confirmation of
the distruction [sic] of the Prussian Monarchy. The Revd. F. McMahon and N.
Rousselet Esq. came Passengers in the Betsey.
His Majesty's Brig Demerara has, we understand, detained and sent
to Barbados an English Guinea-man for having seven Slaves more than her
compliment on Board.

His Excellency the Governor having been pleased to grant us
permission to open a School in these Colonies, we beg leave to inform the
public that we intend to do so on Monday the 2d February, in the new House
belonging to Mr. James Knight opposite to Messrs. Robert Arnot & Co.
Cumingsburgh; the hours of and terms for teaching English Reading, Latin,
Writing Arithmetic, and Book Keeping, may be known by applying to us at the
above place. Every attention will be paid to those entrusted to our care.
