LOCALITIES.
[heading]
***
The Names of those Persons, whose Accounts, being of long-standing, are placed
in the Hands of an Attorney-at-Law, will be published in a future Gazette.
The
Royal Militia of George-Town paraded yesterday morning.
By
the arrival from Barbados above-mentioned, we learn that dispatches had been
received there from Admiral Sir J. B. Warren, stating, that all hope must be
relinquished of an amicable arrangement with America; and, at the same time,
ordering the Dragon on the Halifax station. In consequence of which, we are
informed, Sir Francis Laforey has hoisted his flag on board the Tribune
frigate.
Our
old friends the Joseph, Capt. Strickland, the Fame, Capt. Greenidge, and
several other, are hourly expected from Barbados, under convoy, it is stated,
of the Maxwell, Commodore Irlam.
The
long-expected Halifax fleet for the West Indies, is at length, arrived.
The
American Privateers are again in the neighbourhood; and from whom it appears,
the Surprise (already announced) had a very narrow escape. She fell in with
two schooner off the Oronoque, and by the smaller one, supposed to be the
Burchal, was immediately chased. Making the land, the sloop soon after
grounded; but the master, luckily not lowering the sails, the Yankee followed
and grounded likewise - but, drawing less water, the sloop was of course a float
first. The enemy was afterwards seen in a northern course; and it is
suspected, the Highflyer was off this river, in the course of yesterday. The
Opossum is off Berbice.
Departed
this life, last night - Mr. James [mutilated]own and much-respected colonist.
He died at his [mutilated] Werk & Rust.
