GAZETTE.
Saturday, March 18, 1815.
Banns of Marriage - between John
Whitaker Tull, batchelor, born in Barbados; and Ann Walker Cuvelji, spinster,
born in St. Eustatius.
Any person knowing any just cause or
impediment, why the above parties should not be joined together in Holy
Matrimony must declare the same to the Rev. W. G. Straghan. - March 12.
Misses Waterton & Chapman beg leave
to inform their friends and the public, that they intend opening a Seminary for
Young Ladies, immediately after the Easter Holidays, (that is, on the 3d of
April), wherein will be taught English, French, Writing, Arithmetic, and Fancy
Work.
They beg leave to assure those who may
entrust their children to their care, that every attention will be paid to
their morals, and that they will ever keep in view their improvement. They
have taken the house on the Canal road, No. 79, in Kingston; an eligible and
healthy situation. They return their grateful acknowledgements to those
friends who have made known their wish and intention of placing their children
under their care; they are convinced that their conduct under so great a
charge, will entitle them to their approbation, and to the notice of the
generous public. Their Terms will be made known on application. - March 18.

Charles Wilday, Sworn Clerk.
The Berbice Mail-Boat, from Barbados,
arrived on Thursday; at which island had also arrived, the Packet Queensbury,
thirty-eight days from England.
Independent of the Mail-Boat, we have
had four arrivals: - the Henrietta, last from Madeira; and the Maria and Grenada,
from Barbados.
Also Caledonia from the Oronoque.
The public is already aware of the
perilous situation of the Cygnet, and of the Chanticleer's sailing to render
assistance; - the former, in consequence of having taken ground, to windward of
Berbice; the latter, from an intimation thereof to Capt. Thompson - who,
strange as it seems, past twice in his last cruise, without observing the
sloop. This is also another proof of the late unexampled haziness of the
atmosphere. - In what state the Cygnet was found by the brig, is not yet
ascertained; but we fear, almost without hope. She had however, from being
eased of her guns and stores, been enabled to float - so well so at least, as
to bear pilotting [sic] into the Courentine river. A service, performed by Mr.
Ferguson's boat-captain, in a masterly manner.
OBITUARY.- It is with deep regret,
founded on his well-known public and private worth, that we announce the
departure from this life, of The Honourable Joseph Beet; - a gentleman, who,
almost from time immemorial, has directed the POLICY of this community. He
also filled other situations in a manner equally satisfactory to the public;
and consequently conducive on his own part, to that tranquil state of mind, in
which we are told he - died. If indeed, one circumstance more than another, is
capable of reconciling a departing spirit, to a separation from the body it so
loves, it certainly must be in having spent a life of usefulness - even like
that of the venerable colonist we now allude to. - The melancholy event took
place at Bath, in England, on the 14th of January, and in the 62d year of his
age, after a week's illness.
