BANNS of MATRIMONY - between James
Storey, widower; born in Barbados, of the Protestant Religion, on the one part;
and Mrs. Rosetta Charlotte Schropp, widow of the late D. Luthers, also of the
Protestant Religion, on the other part.
Any person knowing just cause or
impediment, why these parties should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony,
must declare the same at the Colonial Scretary's [sic] Office.

By Virtue of an Order granted by His
Honor the President of the Honorable Court of Criminal and Civil Justice, of
the United Colony of Demerary and Essequebo, bearing date the sixth of March,
1817 - I, the undersigned Deputy First Marshal of said United Colony, at the
request and instance of V. A. Heyliger, First Fiscal (R.O.) of the aforesaid
United Colony, do hereby, by edict, ad valvas curiae, summon John Heazle, to
appear personally before the said Honorable Court of Criminal and Civil
Justice, at their next Ordinary Session, to be holden at the Court-House,
George-Town, on the twenty-first day of this present month of April, and
following days - in order to answer to such demand and conclusion as the
Plaintiff (R.O.) shall deem meet to make and enter against him, the said
Defendant, on account of his standing charge with having on Thursday, the
twenty-seventh of February last, between the hours of nine and ten o'clock at
night, made an assault on the body of Abraham Hewlings; and, after this, with
having challenged said Abraham Hewlings, to fight him in single combat that
very night, within half an hour from the time when the challenge was gi ven;
and with having, in consequence thereof, met said Abraham Hewlings on a spot
near to the place where the Block-House formerly stood, and there with having,
in a duel, wounded said Abraham Hewlings, through the body with a pistol ball,
of which wound said Abraham Hewlings died the next day, the twenty-eighth of
February last, at half-past nine o'clock, A.M. - and to answer to all such
preliminary requests, as the said First Fiscal (R.O.) shall deem fit to make -
and to proceed according to law.

The schooner Mathew King, from Barbados,
is the only arrival since our last. She has brought papers to a late date; but
they contain nothing of importance.
The letter-bag of the brig Nicholson,
which sails for London on Wednesday next, is at the Store of Messrs. Nurse
& Troughton.
