This is a hand drawn map, showing the Demerara Rive from its mouth inland, and the coast running from the Crique de Boreasirie in the West to Crique de Mahayka in the East.
The plantations front onto either the river or the sea coast in the majority of cases, and run inland, their depth being about five times their frontage.
At the river mouth on the East headland is marked a Fort, and a little further south is a Redoute.
Plantation 4 on the east river cost is marked 'Nouvelle Ville'. Canal Saffon runs inland (east) joining the river between plantations 7 and 9. Canal No 3 runs inland (east) joining the river between plantations 15 and 16. An unnumbered canal runs inland (east) joining the river between plantations 23 and 24. Madawine Crique runs inland (east) joining the river between plantations 44 and 45 forming the border. Hamerarony Crique runs inland (south east) joining the river between plantations 47 and 48 but passing through plantations 49 to 54.The plantations on the east side are numbered to 60. Halmoraeni Crique runs inland (south east) joining the river between plantations 60 and the most southerly plantation marked Sn Foix.
On the west side of the river the plantations are number 1 to 68 running from the river mouth to the south. Canal No 1 runs inland (west) joining the river between plantations 12 and 20. Plantations 13 to 19 front onto the canal inland from the river running north-south commencing just beyond the depth of plantations 12 and 20. Canal No 2 runs inland (west) joining the river between plantations 23 and 24. Hoebabbo Crique runs inland (west) joining the river between plantations 28 and 29. Camoeny Crique runs inland (zig-zagging approximately west) joining the river between plantations 54 and 55. It runs through plantation 54, and forms the western borders of plantations 55 and 56. Plantation 60 is marked Montague de Sable. Hayama Crique runs inland (south wast) joining the river between plantations 60 and 61 and forms the border between plantations 61 and 62.
The plantations on the east sea cost are numbered from 1 to 54, with additional eastern plantations marked as Doedens, Boode, Jugla, Breton and Talard. The Coerabane Crique mouth to the sea is approximately opposite plantation 21. The Crique runs approximately east, paralleling the sea coast, forming the frontage for plantations 21 to 39. A marshy area is marked between the Crique and the sea coast. Three plantations marked Brouck, Berminclos and Bennet appear between plantations 39 and 40.
Wouariwary Crique runs south from the sea into plantation 42. Crique de Mahayka runs south from the sea between plantation 54 and Doedens.
Plantations on the west sea coast are numbered from 1 to 25. A plantation marked Macre appears between plantation 11 and 12. Crique de Boreasirie runs inland (south) joining the sea at plantation 24. Plantation 25 also fronts onto the Crique, and the Crique forms its western border. One further plantation to the west bordering on the Criques is marked les Hs Struijes.A bridge (Pont) is marked crossing the crique between plantation 25 and les Hs Struijes.
The scale of the map is marked in Rouds. A typical plantation depth is 750 Rouds. On the reproduction of the map that I have created 15.5cm = 4000 Rouds. The map is 51.5 by 61cm.
