Or sparrow grass as I called it as a child.<br \/>\nLast week we noticed that asparagus had hit the market shelves.<br \/>\nFresh, local asparagus at $5 a kg as a basis for RLC was an opportunity to be exploited.<br \/>\nSimple dish using asparagus? Hmm.<br \/>\nSteamed\/grilled with&#8230;free range, home-grown eggs and something.<br \/>\nSomething???<br \/>\nI suggested maybe pesto.<br \/>\nNo.<br \/>\n&#8220;Hollandaise sauce mum..that&#8217;s what you have with asparagus and poached eggs.&#8221;<br \/>\nNot that we ever have that at home.<br \/>\nBut observed in the general mix of foodie things in our lives.<a href=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-441\" title=\"IMG_7987\" src=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_79871.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>$3.45 worth of asparagus bagged us 4 fat spears of asparagus each,\u00a0 4 free home grown eggs, $2.20 for a commercial hollandaise sauce (which was actually relatively decent) and $1 for a big bread stick and our lunch ended up costing $6.65.
