(A nod to the past, for the present and will do again)."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/?p=744\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"450px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><p>Celebrating my brothers 50th last week of course involved reminiscing, and a joke was made that I should have just cooked an old family staple as the birthday meal.<br \/>\nAlthough, if I had done that, my other brother and family would have then had it 3 times in one week.<\/p>\n<p>Corned beef and cabbage.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/?attachment_id=745\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-745\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-745\" alt=\"IMG_8519\" src=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/licktheplateclean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_8519-300x225.jpg\" width=\"332\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBoys are quite taken by weird canned things at the best of times, so with the family history being freshly discussed it was well on their minds.<br \/>\nNow, we were spoilt for choice today for RLC, but, oh no&#8230;the boys desire to have Corned Beef and Cabbage was such a strong pull that there was no option.<\/p>\n<p>Corned beef and Cabbage.<\/p>\n<p>Tinned corned beef at that, as the recipe was developed by my mother when we lived in a country where access to reasonably priced fresh meat was limited.<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 a Savoy cabbage, shredded and fried with 1 onion finely sliced so that\u00a0 the onion is soft and sweet, then the tin of beef stirred in. A tablespoon of Soy sauce and cooked till the cabbage is still a bit on the firm side.
