These were presumably ground off the mould after 1929 in order to retain currency after that date.<br>But the design still retains the more artistic inclusion of the Rising Sun motif, as used on Australian Army badges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/trig\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WW1-rising-sun-cap-badge.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vc.id.au\/trig\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WW1-rising-sun-cap-badge.jpg 640w, https:\/\/vc.id.au\/trig\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WW1-rising-sun-cap-badge-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">WW1 rising sun badge from the collection of the Australian War Memorial<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice to commemorate the opening of such a solemn monument on an item as refined and domestic as a sandwich tray reminds me of the patriotic and commemorative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awm.gov.au\/advanced-search?query=Crochet&amp;collection=true&amp;facet_type=Heraldry&amp;facet_related_conflict_sort=8%3AFirst%20World%20War%2C%201914-1918\">crochet tea cosies, tea tray cloths, pillow and jug covers made during the war.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the last couple of years I have been using this tray to serve ANZAC biscuits on ANZAC day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s ANZAC day today, which reminds me of an item in my collection.
