Text | Comments: Hi. It's amazing what an idle Google search brings up! My mother was married to Harold Van Cooten who was vicar at Cratfield in Norfolk. She is still alive, living in her home town of Edinburgh. Do you need more information for completeness? I believe there's also a portrait of Harold's mother in my late uncle's house - apparently I'm going to inherit it when my aunt passes away! ——————————— My mother is Sophia Gray Brown. If you like, I will speak to her and see if she is happy for you to contact her - it will have to be by letter though, as she is struggling to get to grips with the computer! She was 94 last week. After harold died, she returned to Edinburgh to live with her brother, Dr Edwin Brown as his housekeeper. She married my father in 1958, and Dr Brown (who was Harold's friend - they both studied at Edinburgh University together, and Harold met my mother through him. In fact, I have heard it said that it was Harold who suggested that my uncle become a doctor rather than a vicar, as he would be of more use to society that way!). Sadly my uncle died last year. I will be visiting Edinburgh before Christmas, and thought of taking a photograph of the picture. I'm sure that there are some notes that go with it - one of my uncle's friends knew a bit about the art world and did a bit of research of his own. I hope that today goes brilliantly well. It was very nice to hear from you Charlotte | |
