Text | Hi Rod, My grandmother was Gertrude Sarah Jane Sirrell, she was born 1912. Alfred Sirrell (married to Sarah Thomas) was her grandfather and her father was Charles Sirrell born 1891 Kington Hereford. Charles married Elizabeth Matilda Price and they had a son Cecil and my grandmother Gertrude. The day before my grandmother was born Elizabeth's mother died which led to Elizabeth having a mental breakdown.. in her hospital notes it was referred to as meloncholia. She never really recovered and spent the rest of her days in an asylum. Cecil went to live with Elizabeth's family and Gertrude went to Sarah and Alfred Sirrell. Charles went to America and later to Canada where he was killed in a mining accident. My grandmother knew very little about her own parents but years later was left money by her mother's brother which led to her meeting her brother who she hadn't seen since she was a child. Sadly the only photographs I have are of Ernest Sirrell's wife and children. Best Wishes Helen | |
