The Gazette & General Advertiser Tue 5 Apr 1842 Married - In the island of Barbados, Nicholas Van Cooten Esq., part proprietor of Pln. Vryheid's Lust to Sarah Maria Verhaagen, alias Simson, at the Cathedral on the 7th March 1842; this lady ws given away by Mrs. Dorothy Thomas, of this Colony - communicated. Note: EDG 1804 mentions Heer Wm. Verhaagen and the firm of Verhaagen & Ceuvrorst Rod Van Cooten .. thinks that N. H. A. isn't Hendrik's son - see his tree. There was a son Nicholas, one of the executors of Hendrik's will, who I know also had a son Nicholas, who may well be N. H. A. The John Smith Diary for 16 July 1818 says: "This morning Mr N.Van Cooten sent his son Nicholas to school here. We are to have 8 guilders per month for his instruction, & 10 guilders per month to provide him his dinner every day". I think it more likely that the Nicholas who died in Barbados is more likely to be this Nicholas, i.e. a grandson of Hendrik Royal Gazette Thur 2 Jan 1845 mentions N. Van Cooten as one of the Justices at Plaisance, on Thurs, 16th Jan. RG Sat 31 May 1845 Note: N. Van Cooten appears to be unmarried judging by the sale of his effects. Royal Gazette Sat 14 Mar 1846, mentioned under Creditors Claims; RG 28 Mar 1846 also mentions a S.M. Van Cooten, formerly S.M. Verhaagen, living in Demerary ************************************** I'm working on a couple of other queries regarding the importing of data into Family History. I'll send you an old BG Gedcom file to practise with; shortly. Kind regards Tikwis | |
